30 April 96 - Explosives Found On Skye Bridge

No, not the IRA, or a change of tactics by SKAT :-)

An explosive charge was found today by a street sweeper at the back of the Ferry Boat Inn public bar which had been left behind from demolition work on the approach roads to the Skye Bridge.

The charge was one which had failed to go off during the blasting works carried out on a large rockface which the road to the bridge was cut through along the shoreline at Kyle of Lochalsh.

The explosive was removed and safely detonated at the old quarry in Kyleakin on Skye which had previously been used to supply rocks to the bridge project.
