13 October 1996 - Sir Ian Resigns As Bridge Chairman

Sir Ian Noble, has resigned his post as Chairman of the controversial Skye Bridge Company.

Sir Ian, who owns Eilan Eirman hotel on Skye and who is a great advocate of the Gaelic language, was denounced as a traitor by the locals of Skye when he first took up the position last year.

As Winter approaches, the Skye Bridge has now changed to its Winter tarrif - reducing the price of a car to £4.30 from £5.20. It is expected that next year, the summer rate for a single crossing of a car will increase to £5.50.
