SKAT Survey

Some basic facts: Both Labour and the Lib\Dems have promised the electorate in Skye that they would abolish tolls on the Skye Bridge. These parties now form the Scottish Government's ruling coalition.

The Government are paying £1.1 m + VAT @ £0.6m per annum of taxpayer's money to keep tolls on the bridge. It would be cheaper for them to buy out the tolls and abolish them. The infamous "New Roads and Street Works Act 1991", which made a civil issue a criminal offence, still remains on the Statute Book, although police are being instructed not to use it.
